The Introduction of Drill

Your first class with Doctor Drill is something you'll not soon forget.  The man can take over a room with a simple "Good Morning, IV!"  He can build you up.  He will make you laugh.  He will make you feel like you can do anything.

I remember when he walked into that gym that first day.  He commanded attention.  He commanded respect.  He struck fear into you, if you didn't know was about to happen.

I was petrified.

When he walked into the room, we were already standing at attention.  We were already warmed up.  He walked in and stared us down.  He was a Drill Sergeant.  Not unlike R. Lee Ermey from Full Metal Jacket.  Gunnery Sergeant Hartman.  I was completely unprepared.

Drill knew everybody.  He knew every name.  He knew how we felt.

He led us through an hour of exercises, most of which I failed to accomplish.  From side-straddle-hops, to super jacks, to combo-calisthenics (not for the faint of heart), I'd never been through such a workout.

It was fantastic.

Class took on a whole different meaning from there on in.  Drill classes were different when he was there.  The other workouts were great, but he had (and still has) such a presence that everything changes when he is/was there.

Every DDIPer out there will tell you, never miss a Drill workout.  The reasons for never missing are:
1.  He'll know that you aren't there.  He will ask why.
2.  You'll most likely miss something that hasn't been done yet.  And may never be repeated.
3.  He'll know that you aren't there.  He will ask why.

No workout is EVER the same at DDIP.  They all have similarities, but none are ever the same.  That's the best part.
